Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Ruhengeri
Upon arrival in Kigali, your driver-guide meets you and, thereafter, transfers you to Ruhengeri. Meanwhile, enjoy rolling green hills and countryside views. Finally, settle in for dinner and an overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans)
Early morning, after breakfast, you head to the park headquarters for a ranger briefing and packed lunch. Then, accompanied by an experienced ranger, you trek through bamboo slopes to find the gorillas. Depending on their location, the trek may last from thirty minutes to six hours; however, once found you have up to one hour to observe and photograph them. Afterwards, return to the assembly point for your certificate, and then relax at your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Kisoro, Uganda (Southern Bwindi)
Early breakfast precedes a scenic drive north, with a stop at the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Next, you cross the Cyanika border into Uganda and arrive in Kisoro for lunch. Then, explore Lake Mutanda and climb Sagitwe Hill for panoramic views of Kisoro town, the Virunga Mountains, and distant Bunagana. Finally, enjoy dinner and an overnight in Kisoro.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
After breakfast and a packed lunch, you attend the Bwindi ranger briefing. Then, trek through lush forest trekking time varies from thirty minutes to six hours until you reach a gorilla family. Moreover, you will be allowed one hour with the gorillas to watch them feed, play, and groom. Afterwards, receive your gorilla-trekking certificate and return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Return to Kigali via Katuna; Kigali City Tour & Departure
Following an early breakfast and check-out, drive back to Kigali over the Katuna border, with scenes of Echuya Forest Reserve and parts of Lake Bunyonyi along the way. Next, enjoy a brief Kigali city tour including the Genocide Memorial and Kimironko Market, followed by lunch at the famed Hôtel des Mille Collines. Finally, you are dropped at Kigali Airport or your preferred Kigali location for your onward journey.
