Detailed Itinerary of 4 Days Kenya Big Five Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Maasai Mara national reserve.

On the first day of 4 days Kenya Big five safari. Your safari driver guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel or from Kenyatta International Airport. He will give you a brief before taking you on a quick city tour of Nairobi, where you’ll see the National Museum, market squares, Snake Park, and more. You will have lunch and then drive to Maasai Mara national reserve after the city tour. While travelling along the way, take in the magnificent scene emerging behind you and stop at Great Rift Valley for stunning escarpment views and fantastic photo opportunities. Continue driving through Longonot and Suswa, make another in Narok, and learn about Maasai culture while observing Maasai locals going about their everyday lives.

Arrive in the reserve, check into your lodge, and later that night, and go out on a game drive around the reserve. Using a spotlight, you will be able to see predatory animals such as lions, cheetahs, hyenas, leopards, and African dogs as they search for prey. You will return to your lodge after the experience, have dinner, and spend the night there.

Day 2: full day game drive in Maasai Mara national reserve.

On the second day of 4 days Kenya Big five safari. Wake up early in the morning and take a hearty breakfast. After breakfast meet with your safari guide. Today is a huge day and the highlight of the safari since you will spend the entire time on game drives exploring the reserve and getting a chance to see the big five, which include lions, leopards, rhinoceroses, buffaloes, and elephants. Other creatures you might see include warthogs, hyenas, grant’s gazelles, Maasai giraffes, wildebeests, hartebeests, lions, zebras, and many others in addition to the big five and watching various beautiful bird species in the reserve. You can either drive back to your lodge for lunch before returning for another game drive to further explore the reserve, or you can have a picnic lunch set up at one of the reserve’s picnic areas.

Day 3: depart Maasai Mara national reserve to Lake Nakuru national park.

On the third day of 4 days Kenya Big five safari. Get up early and proceed to Maasai Mara National Reserve for your final game drive through its rolling savannah plains. After that, take a late breakfast at your lodge before checking out and travelling to Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya’s premier birding destination. Upon your arrival, you will check into your lodge after having lunch when you arrive in the park. You will go on a game drive later in the afternoon where you will see black and white rhinos, leopards, hippos, zebras, and over 600 different bird species, including dense flocks of greater and lesser flamingos, pelicans, and many others. After the game drive, you will drive back to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: depart Lake Nakuru national park to Nairobi city.

On the fourth day of 4 days Kenya Big five safari. Wake up and take a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, check out of your lodge, and then travel back to Nairobi, where you will be dropped off at either your hotel or the airport in time for your flight home.
