Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Bwindi
First, your driver/guide collects you from Entebbe International Airport or your Kampala hotel. Next, stop at the Equator for photos and souvenirs. Then, enjoy lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara. Finally, continue through the terraced Kigezi Hills to Bwindi, where you will check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi
After an early breakfast, bring your packed lunch from the lodge and head to park headquarters for a mandatory briefing. Then, you’ll be grouped (max 8 per group) and guided into the forest. Because gorillas roam for food, the trek can take 30 minutes up to 7 hours. Once found, you will spend one magical hour observing, photographing, and learning about their behavior. Afterwards, return to the HQ for your trekking certificate and head back to the lodge to relax.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking & optional Lake Mutanda boat cruise
Following breakfast, transfer to Mgahinga and attend the golden monkey briefing. Then, trek (30 minutes–4 hours) to find the playful golden monkeys and spend one hour with them in their habitat. After the encounter and lunch, you may opt for a boat safari on Lake Mutanda to enjoy Virunga Mountain vistas and water birds. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Departure to Kampala
Finally, after breakfast and check-out, depart for Kampala. Along the way, pause for lunch and savor more views of the Kigezi landscape and local homesteads. You will arrive in Kampala or be dropped at Entebbe International Airport in the early evening.
Wildlife & what to expect
Expect mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, other primates (black-and-white colobus, L’Hoest’s, chimpanzee traces), forest elephants, buffalo, duikers, diverse birds, and rich forest flora. Moreover, each trek is led by experienced park guides for your safety and a rewarding experience.
