Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival, briefing and transfer
After arrival at Kigali International Airport, your English/French speaking driver-guide will meet you, give a short briefing, and then transfer you to Volcanoes National Park (approximately 2 hours). If you arrive early, moreover, you can visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial and Kimironko Market before lunch. Upon arrival, check in to your lodge and relax for the evening.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking (main event)
Rise early for breakfast, and then head to the park headquarters for the mandatory briefing and trekking permits. Trekking can last from about 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on the gorillas’ overnight location; therefore, be prepared for variable terrain. When you find them, you will spend one full hour observing mountain gorillas at a safe distance of 6 metres while they go about their daily life. Afterwards, collect your gorilla trekking certificate and return to the lodge for rest.
Furthermore, if you still have energy, you may arrange an Iby’iwachu Cultural Centre visit to experience traditional Rwandan dances and crafts.
Day 3: Return to Kigali
Following breakfast and lodge check-out, drive back to Kigali (roughly 2–3 hours). En route, you may stop at the Dian Fossey Fund Museum and enjoy lunch in Musanze. Finally, you will be dropped off in Kigali, marking the end of your 3-day safari.
