Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Transfer to Ruhengeri

Upon arrival, your safari guide will pick you up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport and brief you about the itinerary. Next, enjoy a short Kigali city tour including the Kigali Genocide Memorial an important educational site and a moving reminder of Rwanda’s history. Additionally, you may visit Camp Kigali, the Nyamirambo Women’s Centre, the Caplaki Craft Village and Kimironko Market. After lunch, you will be transferred (approximately 1–2 hours) to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri. Finally, check into your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Return to Kigali

Early morning, following breakfast, your guide will take you to the Volcanoes National Park offices (about 30 minutes) for the ranger briefing. There, the chief park ranger will explain park and gorilla trekking regulations. Afterwards, groups are assigned to track one of the habituated gorilla families. Trekking can take anywhere from 30 minutes to eight hours, depending on the family’s location; however, once found you will spend one hour with the gorillas. Then enjoy a provided lunch and check out. Finally, you will be transferred back to Kigali where you may take a brief city excursion if time allows, before being dropped at the airport for your onward flight.
